Cleaner warns popular skirting boards cleaning hack ‘will actually make dust stick’

The idea is that applying fabric conditioner to your skirting boards will add a layer that keeps dust away and makes your home smell good. In actuality, it makes dust more likely to stick.

“But this method isn’t a fool-proof approach. Not only will it fail to remove all dust but it can also introduce a whole host of other and more serious issues into the home,” Emily said.

The washing solution can be toxic to any pets or kids you have in your home. It’s also potentially flammable, increasing the risk of a fire.

Don’t miss…

That’s especially true if you have candles or electrical appliances near where you are applying the fabric conditioner.

An alternative solution to cleaning skirting boards is to mix water and white vinegar, according to MollyMaid. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe across the boards, and dry with a separate clean cloth.

If you want to add a smell, you can use drops of essential oils in the solution. Just beware certain oils can also be toxic to pets.
