Coat dresses
According to Megan Watkins, Head Stylist at SilkFred, the Princess of Wales’s name is often synonymous with the coat dress. This hybrid fashion item is a favourite of Kate’s, creating a sleek put-together look on even the coldest of days. Ms Watkins said: “A coat dress is an easy way to stay stylish and warm. Last year, at the Queen’s one-year remembrance at St. David’s Cathedral in Pembrokeshire, Kate wore a burgundy, belted version of the style, complete with matching fascinator and court shoes, gold detailing and a subtle v-neckline. This style is perfect to pair with a statement necklace and classic court shoes. Coat dresses are a great option for autumn weddings or more fancy occasions where you fear you may get cold and it’s easy to see why Kate wears them year after year. Opt for a coat dress in one of the season’s hottest hues, like burgundy or orange.”
Neutral blazers
Princess Kate is known for her love for tailored blazers, sporting many through the years in every colour combination. A neutral blazer is a perfect staple for these upcoming transitional months, where the weather can change on a dime. According to the style expert, the princess covets this tailored look which serves as the ultimate workwear inspiration. Ms Watkins explained: “Perfect for layering, style your blazer with cigarette trousers and this season’s on-trend shoe – a sleek loafer. Opt for a tailored fit and a neutral colour for that ‘royal-appointment’ look. A blazer also works well as a day-to-night staple, being perfect for the workplace and date night or after-work drinks. In June, Kensington Palace revealed the first solo portrait of Kate since her diagnosis, wearing a striped beige blazer, paired with dark denim and flat-soled trainers, a simple yet chic Autumn outfit combination.”
Sweater vests
Aside from being practical, sweater vests are firmly in the fashion canon for 2024. Comfy, versatile and semi-formal, the stylists said it’s no surprise that the future Queen has incorporated this style into her everyday wardrobe. She said: Last year, while on a solo outing to the Vsi Razom Community Hub in Bracknell, the Princess of Wales opted for a more casual look than her normal blazer and trousers attire. A sweater vest is essential for autumn layering and should be a staple in every fashionista’s wardrobe. Go for a neutral shade like white, black or grey to up your sweater vest’s versatility and wear a shirt, t-shirt or long-sleeved top underneath for that effortless, laid-back, chic look. Up your outfit with some matching trousers, as Kate has done here.”
