A popular car photographer and content creator on TikTok has given advice on his top five safety tips for having dogs with you when you go for a drive. Capturing_cars posted his five recommendations in a video entitled, “Five rules with your dogs in the car.”
He said the five tips were essential for dog lovers who want to travel in the car with their furry friends. The first one was not to leave a dog or dogs alone in a vehicle for any period of time. Cars can get hot fast, and dogs have been known to die from heat exhaustion after being left in a car by their owner. On hot days, it doesn’t take long for a dog to be affected badly if it is in a car by itself.
It is recommended that owners take a lead and take the animals with them, or if this is not possible, leave them at home.
The next tip was to ensure that a dog is secured properly inside a vehicle. Under the Highway Code, this is a necessary measure.
A dog crate or harness is needed when travelling with a dog safely. It is important that a dog cannot roam freely around the car, they can also prove dangerous to a driver if this happens or at the very least, a possible distraction. It also provides protection for a dog in the event of an accident.
Not letting a dog roam freely is also the third tip, as a dog could become a missile in a car accident and hurt people in the car or be hurt itself.
Dogs need to be kept away from airbags, and this is the video creator’s fourth tip as airbags are designed purely for humans. The velocity of an airbag could prove to be too strong for a dog, especially smaller breeds.
The number one tip provided by the man is to take breaks on a long road trip. Not only is this beneficial for any humans on the journey, but your four-legged friends will also appreciate this on road trips.
